ReCreation Camp and its affiliate camps are residential camp programs for adults and children with developmental disabilities, offering participants opportunities for fun, social interaction and spiritual growth while providing valuable respite for parents and care givers. Supported by Catholic Charities of Orange County & sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, our camp has been serving persons with special needs since 1978.
Camp ReCreation and Camp ReCreation JR are held at Vanguard University in Costs Mesa. (55 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa CA)
ReCreation Camp serves adults and children with all types of developmental disabilities including Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and more.
In 2018, Camp ReCreation, ReCreation Jr. and our Day Events served more than 1000 individuals and families with special needs. Our campers and their families come from throughout Southern California including, Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties.
ReCreation is staffed entirely by volunteers, from high school students to grandparents, who generously share their time, energy, and talents.
ReCreation operates with a 1-to-1 camper-to-counselor ratio. In 2012, Camp ReCreation was staffed by 165 volunteers – 130 were returning staff, 50 have volunteered with Camp ReCreation for 5 or more years.
A nonprofit organization, Camp is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and generous donations from the community. Based on this level of generosity our camp is provided to the campers at a very small fee. No camper is turned away for inability to pay.
Camp is made available through the generosity of the Knights of Columbus Orange County, Catholic Charities Orange County and community donors. If you or your company is interested in making a tax-deductible donation of necessary goods or money, please contact the Camp Director
